What is Normal Penis Anatomy?

The penis of Men contains two compartment or chambers; called the Corpus cavernosum penis (The corpus cavernosum penis is one of a pair of sponge-like area of erectile tissue which contains most of the blood in the male penis during erection). The corpus spongiosum (also known as the corpus cavernosum urethrae in older texts and in the diagram to the right) are three stretchable erectile tissues along the length of the penis which gets filled with blood during arousal, erection or stimulation. The two corpora cavernosa lie in a horizontal position of the penis shaft, starts from the pubic bones to the head of the penis, where they connect, unite or combine. These formations are made of a sponge-like tissue containing irregular blood-filled spaces lined by endothelium and split or divide by connective tissue septa (thin membrane that serves to divide two bodily cavities or tissues). The corpus spongiosum is one smaller region along the bottom of the penis, which contains the urethra (is the channel for urine and ejaculate) and forms the glans (head of the) penis.

Sexual arousal in Men is a complex process involving the brain, hormones, emotions, blood vessels, muscles and nerves. If anything influence or attack any of these systems — or the imbalance among them — erectile dysfunction can result.
